From The Oakland Press - Thursday September 1, 2005 All Gabriel Triculescu ever wanted was to come to America. In 1994, he got the chance after qualifying through the Soros Foundation for an Open Society Scholership. He was among just five recipients of the award, and was on his way to study statistics at the University of Michigan and live the American dream. Unfortunately, it didn't turn out the way he planned. Because of an unknown error, he and the other recipients weren't able to register for classes when they reached U-M, because funds for all five of the scholarships were canceled.
